Obituary for Sherri L. Van Egtern Sherri L. Van Egtern, born October 8, 1962 to Thomas C. Van Egtern and Jorene Layzod in Gary Indiana, passed away on July 1, 2018 in Saline, Michigan in the care of Arbor Hospice. Sherri graduated from Buffalo Grove High school in Buffalo Grove, Illinois and went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in science from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Sherri has spent the last 10 years as a social worker/case manager at Thera Support in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which was near her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

She committed her life to helping those in need. In her spare time, Sherri enjoyed collecting gems and rocks, finding a good bargain while shopping, but nothing compared to the time she spent with family, especially the bond she shared with her daughter Alexa and her granddaughter Aliyah. She is survived by her daughter Alexa R. Van Egtern-Banks, granddaughter Aliyah Banks, mother Jorene (Layzod) Brontson, sister: Tammy Van Egtern, Tammy’s son Jason (Kristen) Difani, their children: Avery and Huson, sister: Amy (Todd) Wilkinson, their children: Matthew, Adam and Owen, brother: Tom A. (Chelsea) Van Egtern, step mother Nancy Van Egtern, a close friend Rhonda and Sherri’s beloved dog Sadie.

Sherri is also survived by many other close family members and friends. Sherri is preceded in death by her father Thomas C. Van Egtern, paternal grandmother Lillian Louise Van Egtern, maternal grandmother Lillian Louise Layzod, Aunt Betty and beloved dog Max. The family would like to send a special thanks to the Oncology Department at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI and Arbor Hospice for all their compassionate care.
