Major Vivian Beatrice Lewis, ANC Retired, 95, of York, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Born in York Haven on December 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Bessie (Reeser) Lewis. Vivian was a 1941 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a 1945 graduate of York Hospital School of Nursing.

After graduating from nursing school, she enlisted in the US Army Nursing Corps. Vivian proudly served her country for 20 years, retiring at the rank of Major. She served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Following her retirement she worked in several family physicians’ offices and hospitals. In retirement she lived for several years in Deltona, Florida before moving back to York in the early 1980’s. Vivian was an avid golfer and was often on the local links with her golfing friends.

Vivian was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her many nieces and nephews, Vivian is survived by her sister, May Lewis “Lucy” Keeth of Fairfax, VA. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Lewis and Joseph Lewis, who died in WWII, and her sister, Grace Campbell.

A graveside service to honor Vivian will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
