Arthur K. Rose, 82, of Gloucester, husband of Cecilia G. (Goulart) Rose, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his wife holding his hand and family by his side. He was born in Gloucester on December 27, 1935, son of the late Mary G. Rose. Arthur attended Gloucester Schools and later served in the United States Marine Corps.

Arthur worked for many years and retired at Gorton’s of Gloucester. Arthur was also the author of several books, which includes titles such as “Portuguese Hill and a People” which was added to the Smithsonian, “Trying to Make Sense of It All”, and “Philosophy of Our Intelligent Earth”. He was well known for playing the organ in his younger years and was lucky enough to make a record called “Come A Little Bit Closer Baby”.

Arthur also made a documentary about the Fishing Industry and the History of Gloucester. He left an impression everywhere he went with his strong compassion, empathy, and giant heart. He will be missed by family, friends, and everyone he has touched throughout his journey on this Earth.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cecilia G. Rose of Gloucester; daughter, Mary C. Martin and her husband Richard; son, Arthur K. Rose Jr.; grandchildren, Jason Poole, Keith Poole and his wife Melanie and their children, Tyler, Taila, Chloe, Keagan and Ethan, Nicholas Rao, Rachel Rao and her wife Jillian and their children, Quincy and Elijah, Jamie Rao. He will also be dearly missed by John Rao and Marie (Rao) Giambanco. The family would like to thank the Seacoast Nursing Home staff for their loving care that they provided for Arthur and his wife Cecilia and going above and beyond for the family.

Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In keeping with his wishes, his graveside service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
