Leonard C. “Len” Chardo Sr., 76, of Gloucester, husband of Roseann F. (Ragusa) Chardo passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Beverly Hospital. He was born in Somerville, MA on September 3, 1942, son of the late Carmine and Gilda (Rappoli) Chardo. Len was a graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 1962 and later attended Newton Junior College receiving his Associates degree in 1964.

He was an entrepreneur starting out operating a landscaping business in Lexington, followed by delving into the stock market and then operating System Services, a successful computer business, that for many years employed several family members and friends. Through his retirement, he enjoyed keeping busy researching real estate and built several homes in MA, ME and FL. Len and Roseann lived in Concord, MA for 30 plus years, moving to Gloucester in 2007.

Len loved to vacation and explore new places. He was an avid swimmer and spent many winters in Sanibel Island and Marco Island. Taking walks and being immersed in nature are a few simple pleasures he enjoyed.

He enjoyed meeting new people and making people laugh. The most important part of his life was his family, he lived for his family. Len was a character with an infectious laugh and a caring good guy that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Roseann F. Chardo of Gloucester; his daughters, Marcey Ann Chardo- Dos Santos and her husband Douglas, Kristen Ann Chardo and her partner Jennifer Wright all of Naples, FL; his son, Leonard C. Chardo Jr. of Marco Island, Florida; his sister, Karen Cardwell and her husband Michael of Oak Park, CA; his brother, Edward T. Chardo and his wife Vicki Lee of Santee, SC; nieces, Sarah McLellan and her husband Ian of Melrose, Breanna Gooch and her husband Ted of Thousand Oaks, CA, nephew, Alex Chardo of Falmouth, ME and many cousins. His funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Monday, September 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The burial will be held privately.
