Cynthia E. (Hannibal) Osmond, 83, wife of the late Richard C. “Dick” Osmond of Rockport passed away Sunday evening, September 2, 2018 at the Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Rockport on April 29, 1935, she was the daughter of late Norman S. “Rip” Hannibal and Florence E. (Day) Hannibal of Rockport. Cynnie graduated from Gloucester High School in 1954 and went on to attend the Addison Gilbert School of Nursing.
She worked for many years at the Addison Gilbert, Beverly Hospital, Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center as well as many other nursing homes throughout the North Shore. In her later years she became a private duty nurse, allowing her patients to spend their final years in the comfort of their own homes. She had simple loves in her life from raising her four boys to being a major part in the lives of her nine grandchildren.
When she and Dick retired, they would head south every fall after spending a week at the Fryeburg Fair in their motorhome. This allowed them to spend winters with their grandkids in Florida and North Carolina before heading back to Rockport in late spring to be with their grand kids here. She loved the ocean and would spend long summer days at the beach or at the end of Granite Pier keeping a watchful eye for her son Chuck to come in from a day of boating with his family.
The love of her animals lasted her entire life. There was never a time she didn’t have a house full of dogs and cats following her from room to room. She spent hours with her dog Butchie at the top of Summit Avenue, visiting with friends and just spending time at a place she loved.
Cynthia is survived by her two sisters, Jan wife of Charles Kolacy of St. Petersburg FL, Florrie wife of Eugene “Gus” Surrette of Gloucester, four sons, Richard C. Osmond of Tucson Ariz, Scott J. Osmond and wife Stephanie of Charlotte, NC, Charles J. Osmond and wife Janet and Gregory A. Osmond and wife Laura, all of Rockport; grandchildren, Jasmine, Rebecca, Zachary, Nate, Ryan, Derek, Brianna, James and Jillian; great grandchildren, Oliver and Lincoln. She was predeceased by her husband Dick, brother Rip and granddaughter Kelly Osmond. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
A service will be held privately at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid Association, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
