Betty Jean Mays, age 97, of Elwood, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton following an extended illness. She was born in Elwood on October 8, 1920, to the late Don Knotts Sr. and Dorothy Knotts ( who passed away at childbirth) and was raised by step-mother Lola Knotts . Betty was a graduate of Elwood High School and then married Horace Urban Mays.

She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood and the former Elwood Country Club. Betty enjoyed playing bridge at the club for many years. Betty is survived by her sons, Jeffrey V. (wife Edith) Mays of Noblesville, Roger R. (wife Patty) Mays of Orestes; grandsons, Bradley S. (wife Lissa) Mays, Christopher Kyle (wife Frances) Mays; great-grandchildren, Sean B. Mays, Amelia C. Mays, Izzi Mays, and Reed Christopher Mays.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Don, Dorothy, and Lola Knotts; husband, Horace Urban Mays, infant twin sons, Tom and Tim Mays; brothers, Don Knotts, Jr., Guy Paul Knotts, and Jack Knotts. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12, 2018, 11:30 am – 2:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be given at www.
