Obituary for Douglas Paul Fenster Douglas Paul Fenster was born December 10, 1956 in Greeley, Colorado to Dale and Shirley (Deichmann) Fenster. He passed away at his home on April 9, 2018 at the age of 61. Services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Doug attended grade school in a one room school house in Merrick County before going to Central City High School.
He went to Idaho to live with his sister Cheryl for a year working in a body shop. He then moved back to Grand Island where he worked heavy equipment and drove truck across country. Doug last worked for Platte Valley Construction as a heavy equipment operator.
He also worked for several other construction companies. He always said that one of his favorite jobs was operating those machines. He tried other things but always went back to the heavy equipment.
He told us that he got to ride the Harleys and work with those big machines, so he was a happy guy. He enjoyed being a mechanic and doing woodwork. He made many wonderful things of wood, including clocks, a quilt rack for his mother, and a sewing desk for his niece, and jewelry boxes.
After he became disabled, he enjoyed having friends come over and play cribbage with him. He always had the cribbage board on the counter. Doug always had a best friend in his dogs, Charlie & Yogi Bear.
Doug married Patricia Miller in 1976, later divorced. He had a lifetime partnership with Mary Hescock Their daughter Amanda was born March 18, 1987. His granddaughter Dakota born in 2009 and immediately became the apple of his eye.
Doug is survived by his daughter Amanda and granddaughter, Dakota; Mary Hescock; step daughter- Jennifer Hescock; step son Wade (Stacy) Nez all of Grand Island; sister Cheryl (Willie) Reams of Nampa, ID, bothers Randy Fenster (Sonya) of Caldwell, ID, Bradley Fenster(Lynette) of Grand Island and Curtis Fenster (Doreen) of Chapman. He is also survived by several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale & Shirley Fenster; sister, Vickie Fenster Waugh; brother-in-law, Jerry Waugh; step daughter Laura Helms and a niece.
