Obituary for Martha “Marty” J. Rief Martha “Marty” Josephine Rief, 94, died May 7, 2018 at Tiffany Square with her family and friends by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Father Jim Golka will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Thursday with a Rosary service at 6 pm at All Faiths Funeral Home. Martha was born on August 27,1923 to Martin and Josephine (Bachulis) Shuminas. She was raised and received her education in Chicago, IL.
, where she earned a degree in bookkeeping. Martha was united in marriage to Clarence Rief on May 17, 1952. After their marriage they made their home on the family farm in Grand Island.
Blessed into this union was a daughter. Martha was a long – time member of St. Mary’s and well as a member of the Catholic Daughter’s. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, square dancing, spending time with her family, and her life on the farm.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; daughter, Carol (Troy) Johnson of Grand Island; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jacob) Weddle, and Jennifer (Enrique) Anaya; and great grandchildren, Jaden, Devin, Remington, Aidan, and Dominic. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Paul and Violet. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Church.
