Obituary for Richard V. Mendyk Richard V. Mendyk, 83 of Grand Island, NE, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, after a battle with cancer. He was able to be at home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held at Destiny Church, 4306 W HWY 30, Grand Island on Friday from 5-7 PM with a tribute and worship service at 7 PM.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Abundant Life Christian Center, 3411 W Faidley Ave. , Grand Island at 10:30 AM on Saturday. Pastor Tim Rust will officiate.

Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Richard was born to Stanley and Francis (Stenka) Mendyk on May 27, 1934, in Loup City, NE.

Richard graduated from Loup City High School and married the love of his life, Annette Lewandowski on April 26, 1954. Richard started his career as a postal carrier with the USPS on September 13, 1957, and served until he retired on June 2, 1989. Richard also was a great painter and had a family decorating business until he was unable to climb a ladder.

Richard had the heart of a servant and throughout his life served as an officer for the Full Gospel Businessman’s Fellowship International. He served on the board of directors and was an active volunteer for the Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity. He also served many years as a church board member and elder.

Richard enjoyed gardening and always had a beautiful flower garden and bountiful vegetable garden. He loved Polka dancing with his wife, Annette. He also raised cattle as a hobby.

His favorite holiday was Easter as it is a celebration of the resurrection of his Lord and Savior. His goal was to make it to Easter service this year. Thankfully, he was able to fulfill that goal.

He enjoyed spending time with friends and his family. Richard is survived by his wife, Annette (Lewandowski) Mendyk; eight children, David and Nora (Leeds) Mendyk, Laurie (Mendyk) and Joe Shada, Doug and Barb (Nickman) Mendyk, Vicki Mendyk, Marvin and Jeri (Kuszak) Mendyk, Mitch and Judy (Ackerman) Mendyk, Randy and Maureen (Hoelck) Mendyk, and Kelly and Christine (Hodtwalker) Mendyk, forty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and four great- great-grandchildren, three foster daughters; his brother Carl and Alberta Mendyk, and his sister Carolyn (Mendyk) and Lavern Lewandowski. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Leona (Mendyk) Smedra.
