Obituary for Marian Brown Marian Brown, 92, of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away on May 23,2018 from natural causes. A visitation celebrating her life will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Gollaher Chapel of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.

Reverend Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park and Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Marian was born October 20, 1925 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Paul E. and Albena (Thege) Cook.

She regularly reminisced about her time in Lincoln as some of the happiest days of her life. She was proud to be in the first graduating class of Lincoln Northeast High School in 1943. Upon graduation, she attended Pasadena, California Junior College.

Marian returned to Nebraska, where she met her future husband, Del Brown, who was attending Nebraska Wesleyan University. When Del joined the Marine Corps, Marian took the train to join him in Columbia, South Carolina where they were married on December 31, 1944. The family moved a number of times when Del was transferred for his military service and later for his civilian work.

Marian moved to Grand Island in 1969 and has been a resident of Grand Island ever since. Marian’s life quickly became busy raising her children, which were her pride and joy throughout her life. Marian also valued and loved her work, successfully owning and operating Marian’s Casuals from 1970 to 1997.

Many people enjoyed shopping there as Marian had a unique talent for helping customers find clothes they loved and “looked good in”. She loved her work, and she appreciated and enjoyed working with all of the women who worked along side of her. As a woman, she was one of the few women business owners in Grand Island during her career.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, and was on the board of the YMCA Grand Generations Senior Citizens’ Center. She retired from Marian’s when she was 74 years old, and she and Del enjoyed living in their home on Brock’s Lake in Grand Island until he died in 2001. Marian was a happy, contented, independent and energetic woman.

She loved Nebraska, and never wavered from telling people “There is No Place like Nebraska”. She always hoped that her children would return to live in Grand Island. Those who knew and loved her will always remember the many quirky and fun things she did: entering annual Christmas yard decoration contests, burning weeds around Brock’s Lake, gardening, baking, making beautiful May baskets, carving pumpkins, and sending cards and presents to her family.

Marian is survived by her children; Randy (Peggy) Brown of Kent, Washington, Richard (Marjorie) Brown of Bellevue, Washington, Paula Weimer (Russ) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Susan Hiatt (Lyle) of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and their families: Adrienne Bourne (San Juan Islands, WA), Alyson Brown (Wasilla, AK), Kristina Brown (Los Angeles, CA), Philip Brown (Shasta, CA), John Robert DeGroote (Kona, HI), Savannah and Dawson Beethe (Ord, NE), Spencer and Davis Brown (Portland, OR), Jackson Brown (Seattle, WA), Zach Zikmund (Edgar, NE), Ashely Merrill (Johnson City, TN), Ryan and Sam Hiatt (Denver, CO), Katie Hiatt (Jackson, WY), and 12 great grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, her son Robert, her parents, her brother Paul Cook, sisters Margaret Tristan and Virginia Nye Newton, and a brother, Howard, who died in infancy and grandson Patrick Brown.

Marian and family send special thanks to Dr. Wagoner, Tiffany Square, and her special friend, June Oliphant. Memorials are suggested to Grand Generations Center. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Marian Brown please visit our Sympathy Store.
