Obituary for Earl C. Jenkins DANTE, VIRGINIA – Earl C. Jenkins, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia surrounded by his loving family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Lois, who preceded him in death on April 13, 2018. He was born in Wakenva, Virginia; son of the late Lofie and Effie Holbrook Jenkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jenkins; three brothers, Harold, Eugene, and Robert; and one sister, Glenda Kay. He was retired from Clinchfield Coal Company after forty years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved more than anything to be in the woods hunting ginseng.
He loved the community of Dante, Virginia where he spent most of his life. He was a member of the Dante Community Board of Directors. His community was very important to him and he strived to keep the Legacy of Dante alive.
He never knew a stranger and loved to tell anyone about the history of Dante and about the coal industry that built it. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by two daughters, Felicia Brooks and husband, Randy of Castlewood, Virginia and Karen Martin and husband, Mark of St. Paul, Virginia; one son, Michael Jenkins of Dante, Virginia; five brothers, Johnny Jenkins and wife, Lois Gay of Nora, Virginia, Ronald Jenkins and wife, Gloria of Abingdon, Virginia, Glen Jenkins and wife, Neda of Castlewood, Virginia, Billy Jenkins of Castlewood, Virginia, and Ricky Jenkins and wife, Diane of Jonesville, Virginia; three sisters, Vangeline Chafin and husband, Dean of Bristol, Tennessee, Brenda Hobbs and husband, Jim of Bristol, Tennessee, and Phyllis Denton and husband, Larry of Bristol, Virginia; two sister-in-laws, Carol Jenkins of Lebanon, Virginia and Margaret Jenkins of Sandusky, Ohio; five grandsons, Jonathan Snipes and wife, Sasheen, Christopher Snipes and wife, Kelly, Matthew Brooks and wife, Tasha, Timothy Brooks and wife, Crystal, and Keaton Browning; seven great grandchildren, Shea Snipes, Ryver Snipes, Kendra Snipes, Raylin Snipes, Cabrum Brooks, Gracie Brooks, and Remington Brooks; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Earl C. Jenkins will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Jim Pratt officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia.
Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jonathan Snipes, Christopher Snipes, Timothy Brooks, and Matthew Brooks, nephew, Glen Jenkins Jr., and brother, Billy Jenkins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia.
