Obituary for Ella Mae Sheets Ella Mae (Marx) Sheets, 93, of Evansville, passed away June 22 at Newburgh Healthcare. Ella Mae was born on December 14, 1924, to the late Albert and Olivia (Schmitt) Marx. She attended Central High School.

Ella Mae was a member of Christ the King Church for 64 years. She was a Republican Precinct Committeeperson for twenty years. After raising six children, she returned to work and retired from the Vanderburgh County Clerk’s Office.

Ella Mae loved cooking, traveling, sewing, playing bridge and especially enjoyed her lifelong friends in the couples club. She is survived by her sister, Helen Hudson; sons, Stephen (Helen) of Newburgh, Ronald (Gayle) Sheets of Newburgh; daughters, Ellen (Stephen) Hopkins of Evansville, Jayne (Bill) Melchiors of Newburgh, Susan (Mark) Fields of the Woodlands, Texas, Melanie (Thomas) Bird of Charleston, West Virginia; thirteen grandchildren, Betsy (Matt) Bowers, Veronica Jackson, Christina (Sean) Sheets Brown, Erin Hopkins, Katie (Charles) Maiers, Andrew Sheets, James (Kathleen) Sheets, Benjamin (Murray) Cooper-Melchiors, Abby Melchiors, Nicholas and Shannon Fields, Taylor and Kyle Bird; and six great grandchildren. Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husband Roy F. Sheets; sisters, Mary Ann Groeninger and Florence Brassard.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her longtime caregivers at Atria Life Guidance, the staff of Newburgh Healthcare (for the time that she was in their care), and the exceptional staff of Heart to Heart Hospice. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 1, 2018, from 2-6 p.m. with a memorial service at 6 p.m.at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Avenue Evansville, IN 47714. Visitation will continue at Christ the King Catholic Church from 9:30-10:00 a.m. Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Mausoleum.
