Frank (Larry) Burnham, beloved husband of the late Gloria (Langley) Burnham, passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday evening, September 18, 2018, with his family by his side. Born in Gloucester on April 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Raymond A. Burnham Sr., and Pearl (Rodenhiser) Mahoney. Larry attended St Ann’s Grammar School, and graduated from St. Ann’s High in 1958.

He played forward on some very good Saint basketball teams. He also had a short stint as the school’s hoop coach and as a basketball official in the Cape Ann League. He started his lifelong career in the newspaper industry working in the circulation department of the Gloucester Daily Times.

He moved along in management to the Boston Herald Traveler, the Daily Item of Lynn and finally to the Lawrence Eagle Tribune up into his retirement. Until a couple months ago, he completed his newspaper circle by working a few hours for the Times. Larry was always on the go.

He attended every athletic event that his children participated in. He was a founding member of the East Gloucester Vikings Youth Program, he had helped with the funding for the lights at Newell Stadium, and was also involved with the Gloucester Football Boosters in the late 1970’s when his son played and in the mid- 2000’s following his grandson on the Fishermen. He was also seen at fields and courts following his grand children’s events.

He also loved following all the Boston sports teams, and was known to curse a “few” times at the TV for dumb plays. Traveling was one of Larry’s many hobbies. As owner of the Lady in Red Stables, he and his family would travel all around New England and the Mid-Atlantic to watch his thoroughbreds’ race.

A trip to the local post office with his wife often ended up at places like the Maine Diner, out on the Mohawk Trail, or the Poconos. He and Gloria also got to see the world as they made many trips with their good friends “The Coffee Shop Gang”. It would be safe to say, that they have probably been in every restaurant establishment on Cape Ann and the North Shore.

When at home during his retirement, he preoccupied his time with his model railroad display that he had built in his basement. His mini-cities included models of amusement rides and a Big Top Circus. He was very proud of this, as it gave him some bonding time with his young grandchildren.

Larry’s biggest accomplishment was his family, who he was very proud of, and that would include his four legged “kids” Riley and Hailie. He leaves a son, Larry and his wife Tricia, and grandson Thomas R. of Rockport. A daughter, Eileen A. Burnham Quinn, a grandson, Jason D. Quinn, a great grandson Michael B. Quinn.

His granddaughter Jessica Rose Quinn and her fiance Michael Goulart, a great granddaughter Lllyana Raye Goulart, and a soon to be great grandson Landon Goulart. And his former son-in-law Daniel Quinn, all of Gloucester. He is also survived by step sisters Beverlie McSwiggin (John Riley) and Deborah Bekaletz (Walter) of Salem, Mass.

A step brotherDonald R. Burnham (Alice) of Venice, FL. His nieces Theresa Fouts (Barry) of South Venice, FL. Cheryl Hook of Morgantown, WV” and Donna Burnham of Ocala, FL.

Along with nephews Phillip Hook and Sam Hook of Pittsburgh, PA. He also leaves other nephews and nieces along with many cousins. Besides his parents and Wife, he was predeceased by his brother Raymond A. Burnham [r and nephew Raymond A. Burnham III.

Always with some story to tell or a wisecrack or two, Larry enjoyed being with his many friends, especially George and Judi Karavelas, Geri and Manny Gaipo, Joann Mosca, Bill Burobher, and Pat Cecllo. The family would like to thank the staff at Care Dimensions, Drs. Pawson and McIntyre along with the stuff and nurses at Cape Ann Medical Center, Addison Gilbert and Beverly Hospitals and at the Urology Dept.

in the Cummings Center. His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony by the Sea Chapel, Farrington Avenue, Gloucester on Monday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. Relative and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Sunday, September 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
