Fred Robert Bob Wright , July 11, 1932 — April 21, 2018

1932 – 2018 Fred Robert “Bob” Wright, 85, of Santa Maria, CA, passed away on April 21, 2018. Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA, on July 11, 1932. He attended Dorsey High School in Los Angeles.

Shortly after his High School graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, and was assigned to Naval Aviation. After serving his country, Bob received his AA degree from a community college. Bob worked in aerospace (Rocketdyne) for 35 years as a mechanical engineer.

He received a BS degree… Read More » while working at Rocketdyne. He also earned a senior level certificate in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Following certification, he became a teacher in this subject.

He also taught engineering courses part-time at Pierce Community College. Bob was an avid golfer. He enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his tomato plants and avocado tree.

Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge #237. He and his wife, Doris, enjoyed traveling to many U.S. historical sites. They also enjoyed many trips to other countries.

Bob’s most precious times were with his loving family. Bob was very active in his church. He was a deacon and an elder.

He served on the building committee for Grace Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School for 8th grade boys and adults. He led a Seniors fellowship group, and was active in the men’s service group, the Silver Foxes.

Bob is survived by Doris, his wife of 58 years, and his children, Scott Price (Tracy), Lyn Price, Robert Wright (Christine), and Laura Nadler (Dan). He had 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom were dearly loved. He is survived by a brother, Richard and a sister Shirley, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Kathryn Wright, and one sister Suzy. A public viewing will be, Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 9:30 – 10:30 am at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. Graveside service will follow at 11:00 am at Santa Maria Cemetery – South Lawn.

Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Grace Baptist Church, in the Chapel at 11:45 am. A reception will immediately follow in Grace Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Grace Baptist Church, Santa Maria, Mortgage Reduction fund, in memory of Bob.
