HELENA BADERSCHNEIDER 1925 – 2018 Helena Baderschneider, 92, passed away on April 10, 2018 Helen, as she preferred to be called, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 23, 1925 to a family of 11 children. Her parents, John and Theadora Szczesny migrated to the United States from Poland during the height of the eastern European influx of migrants and they settled in Erie where there are still many descendants living. She often talked of her fond memories with her family and friends prior to and during the War, and these were some of her most joyous years. She met and married Melford Emil Baderschneider in 1950 and moved to California in 1952 with infant daughter Kristin where Mel searched for work. They lived in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, where Helen worked for the local tax office until she went to work for Northrup Corporation which is where she retired from.

Helen and Mel were married until his death in 2001. After retirement, Mel and Helen chose to move to Nipomo, CA where they remained the rest of their lives. They loved their home and the years spent here.

Helen enjoyed working in her flower beds, occasionally refinishing furniture, reading especially mysteries and the classics and collected many leather-bound books which she read over and over. She also loved doing crossword puzzles every day of her life. And she loved having her family around her.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Kristin Lee Maycroft, of Weiser, Idaho, and four grandchildren who live in: Newcastle, CA; Placerville, CA; Arlington, TX; and Grover Beach, CA. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, by her husband Mel, and also by her daughter Susan. She remained in the same house after the death of her husband until 2017 at the age of 91 until she became too ill to stay.

At Helen’s preference, there will be no formal services.
