Obituary for Mrs. Helen Louise Ekhardt Hanrahan Helen Louise Ekhardt Hanrahan, 98, wife of the late Thomas Francis Hanrahan, of 515 Benton Street, Seneca, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018, at GHS Cottingham Hospice House. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Hanrahan was the daughter of the late William and Mary Fulton Ekhardt. She had many occupations which included working as a teacher’s aide, seamstress, mail services at New York Telephone and proofreading for a local newspaper.

After retirement, Mrs. Hanrahan and her husband moved to Oconee County in 1976. They soon fell in love with the area and became very active members of the community. They spent time volunteering with the Collins Children’s home and also housed foreign exchange students.

Mrs. Hanrahan was formerly on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, was a founding member of the Foothills Dance Club, Literacy Program of Oconee County and Elderhostel. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Walhalla, SC. Mrs. Hanrahan is survived by her children: Eileen McQuillen and husband Dennis of Seneca, SC, Frances Hanrahan and husband Bryan of Seneca, SC, Maureen Watkins and husband William of GA, and William T. Hanrahan and wife Geri of Conifer, CO; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hanrahan was preceded in death by her sisters: Winifred Arcouet and Frances Nill. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, GHS Cottingham Hospice House, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
