Canada, 66 years of age, and a resident of Oberlin, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 9, 1953 in Amherst, Ohio. James had made his home in Oberlin for the last ten years.

He was employed as a mechanic at the Oberlin College for forty-five years before retiring in 2016. He was a loving family man, and adored his grandchildren. James was very mechanically inclined and could fix anything.

He loved working on cars. He had an appreciation for wildlife, especially cardinals. James loved his pet dog Buster.

He was very intelligent with a great memory. Survivors include his wife Gail Canada (nee: Dodson); his daughters Tracy McCloskey (Joe) and Stacy Canada both of Amherst; his grandchildren Jacob Ritter, Rebecca (Josh) Savage, Travis Ritter and Timothy Kitts; five great grandchildren; his mother Shirley Canada (nee: Henes) of Oberlin; his two brothers and five sisters. He was preceded in death by his daughter Ronda Canada in 1998; and his father James L. Canada.

Friends may call Monday, January 28, 2019 from 3 until the time of the funeral at 7:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. , Amherst. The Rev.
