Marsha Marie von Hofen August 29, 1948 – January 21, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Marsha Marie von Hofen (nee: Matus), 70 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at the Amherst Manor following a three year illness from a rare degenerative brain disease. Marsha was born August 29, 1948 in Norwalk, Ohio. Being raised in Wakeman, she attended Firelands High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1966.

Marsha went on to pursue an education certification at The Ohio State University where she met her future husband Edward von Hofen, Jr. Marsha and Ed resided in Lorain, Ohio for 26 years before moving to Amherst in November 1996, where she had resided until her passing. Marsha devotion for life was raising her family, enjoying friends, traveling the world, tending to her garden and her love of Ohio State football. Her passion grew more for professional golf as her three sons managed PGA TOUR golf tournaments from Florida to California and Mexico.

These events allowed her to mingle with Jack Nicklaus and Bob Hope in Palm Springs CA. Her children and grandchildren were the world to her and nothing was more important than the time she spent with them. Family first, kindness towards other and being courteous were the values Marsha instilled in her children.

Her personality was welcoming, outgoing, and gracious which developed lasting friendships. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly. Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years Edward Lee von Hofen, Jr.; her sons Eric von Hofen (Amy) and Nicholas von Hofen (Katelin) both of Naples, FL and Kurt von Hofen (Edna) of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren; her mother Eleanor Matus (nee: Grimmer) of Norwalk; her siblings Dr. Paul Matus of Oberlin; Craig Matus of Bonita Bay, FL, Paula Cousins of Northbrook, IL, Deborah Davidson of Oberlin and Jeannie Paskart of Missoula, MT.
