Obituary of John Edward Caspers John Edward Caspers, 73, of Esville, our friendly, caring, dependable, and loyal husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. John was born in Bay City on June 6, 1945, the son of the late John L. and Clara B. (LaLonde) Caspers. He attended Bay City Central and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Following his service, John began a career at General Motors. John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bay City and had a love for classic cars, especially his 1957 Thunderbird. He enjoyed gardening, was a member of both the V.F.W. and D.A.V., and was most proud of his family, and being able to see his grandson, Jackson, graduate.

On June 10, 1995, John was united in marriage to Phyllis Meyers, who survives. He also leaves to carry on his legacy his two children: John Robert Caspers and Jennifer (Steve) Duyck. John was the wonderful Papa of Lilliana Duyck and Jackson Duyck.

Also surviving are his siblings, Bill Caspers, Claudia (Norman) Warsaw, and Michael Caspers; and step-children, Connie Meyers, Bonnie Meyers, Clara (David) Sumlin; seven step-grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, John was welcomed home to heaven by his sister, Nancy Caspers. John’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd.

, Hampton Twp. On Friday, July 6, 2018, John will be taken to Zion Lutheran Church, 510 W. Ivy Ave. , Bay City, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until John’s 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony.

Interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran School Roof Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.
