Lena J. Scher, age 92, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at her home. Lena was born on December 14, 1925 in Broken Bow, OK, a daughter of the late J.W. Bristow and Effie (Odom) Bristow. On October 31, 1942, Lena Bristow married John W. Scher, the love of her life, in St. Charles, MO.

Lena was a faithful member of Clark Avenue Church of Christ in Granite City, IL. She retired as a cook from School District 9 in 1984 after 19 years of dedicated service. Lena loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death her sisters, Mary Reaves and Margie Steel; and by one brother, Raymond King. She is survived by her devoted husband of seventy-five years, John Scher of Granite City, IL; loving daughters, Janis (Elijah) Griffin of Starke, FL and Donna (Joe) Long of Starke, FL; brother, Frank King of CA; proud grandmother to two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
