Mary K. (Kendall) Simmons, age 89, of Elwood, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton following an extended battle with dementia. She was born on July 5, 1928 in Moss, Tennessee, to the late Guard and Annie (Burnette) Kendall. Mary married James Ed Simmons on August 9, 1952 and they shared more than 48 years of marriage.

Mary owned and operated Simmons’ Rummage at her home on State Road 28 for many years. She worked for several years at local restaurants including Mr. Happy Burger, Village Cafe, the Star Restaurant and the Triangle Inn. She also was employed at Deter’s Printing.

Mary loved going to rummage sales and attending auctions where she was often known as bidder #3. Mary’s family includes her daughter, Anna (Sam) Bixby of Elwood, daughter-in-law, Gail Alfrey-Simmons, 3 grandsons, Kevin (Kathy) Simmons of FL, Shane (Vanessa) Bixby of Elwood, and Shawn Bixby of Elwood, granddaughter, Kelly Simmons of FL, great-grandchildren, Sydney & Sully Bixby of Elwood, great grandchildren, Madi, Shyanne, and Gavin Simmons of FL, and Elexis Myers of FL. 3 sisters, Louise Arnett of Tipton, Wanda Crowder of TN, Eula (Paul) Garrett of TN, and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Guard and Annie Kendall, husband, Ed Simmons who died May 5, 2001, son, Dwight Simmons, and 2 brothers, Bill Kendall, and George Kendall. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Pastor Gary Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2018, 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. Online condolences can be given at www.
