Obituary for Mary Louise King Mary Louise Lloyd King, 83, of Music Festival Road, Russell County (Belfast-House & Barn Mountain) Virginia and West Midway Road Ft Pierce, Florida passed away peacefully Saturday, June 09, 2018 at her home in Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Austin James Sr. and Ruby Jean Hood Lloyd and brother Austin James Lloyd, Jr. Mary King is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Dr. Charles R. King, daughter Cheryl Lynn King, Ft. Pierce, Florida; three sons Charles R. King, Jr. Belfast, Virginia; William Chandler King, Port St John, Florida; Lloyd Chadwick King, Salem, Virginia; grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Bailey, Lebanon, Virginia; Derek Joel King, Lexington, Kentucky; Andrew James Minner, Ft.
Pierce, Florida; Corbin Ryan King, Rocky Mt. Virginia; Victoria Lynn Minner, Ft. Pierce, Florida; Mary Mattlyn King Salem, Virginia; Ella Kate King Salem, Virginia; Ruby Lynn King, Port St John, Florida, one sister Joyce Lloyd, Blairsville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Faye Lloyd, Douglas, Georgia; five great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Mary was born in Orlando, Florida, graduated from Ft Pierce High School in 1952; attended Auburn University and was awarded an Associate Degree from Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Virginia. Mary was primarily a homemaker although she worked several years as an abstract title researcher. She provided great support that enhanced her husband’s role in establishing and serving 40 years as President of Southwest Virginia Community College.
She was uniquely gifted in many ways with a sense of style, design, and artistic flair that flavored their home and college events with an on-going hospitality and welcoming presence. Her wit could capture you in a minute and added a sparkle at just the right time. Proverbs 31:10-31 describes Mary’s married life.
Everyday life roles of wife, mother, and grandmother were important to her whether it was preparing for a school activity for one of the children, a college or community function, or preserving the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables for a growing family. Mary’s life enjoyments were horseback riding, gardening, floristry, antiquing, arts and crafts, crossword puzzles, exercising with her friends, and community spirit activities with the Cedar Bluff Garden Club and Richlands High School football team. Mary was a born-again Christian and a member of the Southside Christian Church in Fort Pierce Florida where she married her husband.
She was an avid reader and read through the Bible several times. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 6pm until 7:30pm with a Celebration of Mary’s Life service to begin at 7:30pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel, 1401 2nd Street Richlands, Virginia. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11am at Southside Christian Church, 3822 Edwards Rd, Fort Pierce, Florida 34981.
Friends may call at the church from 10am until 11am prior to the funeral. Interment will follow immediately at White City Cemetery, 3800 Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Pierce, Florida 34982.
