Obituary for Professor R. Eugene Nix Professor R. Eugene Nix, 90, of 400 Highland View Drive, Mountain Rest, husband of the late Mary Belle Stanton Crenshaw Nix, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Presbyterian Retirement Community of Clinton, SC. A native of Florence, SC, Prof. Nix was the son of the late Emory and Seavy Mae Creech Nix.

He was an Electrical Engineer Professor and throughout his career taught at Purdue, Virginia Tech, Texas A&I (now Texas A&M), and Clemson Universities. Prof. Nix was the director of Camp Buc for 10 years, an assistant Scout Master of Clemson and Pendleton packs, the president of the Pendleton Lions Club in 1974, a member and Sargent of Arms in the Walhalla Rotary Club, and a board member of the Mountain Rest Community Club.

He was a member of Walhalla Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained elder, a deacon, and the middle school Sunday School teacher for many years. Prof. Nix is survived by three sons: Billy Crenshaw (Lisa), Martin Eugene Nix, and Steven Alan Nix (Penny); three daughters: Janice Crenshaw Gunnin Wilson, Teresa Nix O’Neil (Timothy), and Melanie Nix Fowler; fourteen grandchildren; Heather (Paul), Tiffany (Nathan), Tara (Jason), Timothy, Cayce, Shawn (Gretchen), John (Jennifer), Jason (Ashley), Amy (Scott), and Melanie’s five children; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Walhalla. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Walhalla Presbyterian Church followed by a luncheon at West Union Presbyterian Church. A Memorial reception will be held from 1:30 PM until 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Presbyterian Retirement Community in Clinton with a Memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM.
