Robert Whitmer, 97, of Kewanee, died Friday, April 13, 2018 at Courtyard Estates, Galva. Robert was born July 21, 1920 in Kewanee, the son of Herbert and Catherine (Huber) Whitmer. Robert graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of ’39.

Robert married Doris Petty in Kewanee on March 23, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1994. Robert is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Floyd) Williamson, Noblesville, IN; son, Herb W. (Millie) Whitmer, Toulon, IL; four grandchildren, Todd… Read More » Williamson, Amy Behme, Brooke (Chad) Traphagan, Tim Williamson; six great grandchildren, Alyssa, Carter, and Tristan Behme, Delaney, and Dawson Traphagan, Nick Williamson; and sister, Bonnie Thompson.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; two brothers, Donald, Jack; three sisters, Joyce Ballentine, Faith Monson, Peggy Buckingham; and an infant grandson, Eric Andrew Williamson. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Robert was a carpenter with Kewanee Boiler for 30+ years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee. Robert was a very independent, hard-working man with a great sense of humor. In his earlier days he loved to garden and spend time with his family at their cabin on the Rock River.

Robert also enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, and attending church services, but was happiest when spending time with family. Each memory of Robert will be a blessing to us. Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, Kewanee.

Dr. Dale Dykstra will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Thursday prior to the service at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. Please leave an online condolence for Robert’s family at www.
