Roland “Toad” Ronald Whited, age 80, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at his home. He was born at Swords Creek, Virginia and was the son of the late Luther Winfred and Daisy Plaster Whited. He had made his home in the Swords Creek area all of his life and was a former carpenter, construction worker, and miner.

He was a graduate of Honaker High School Class of 1957, a member of the UMWA Local #1760 Jewell Ridge, Virginia, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Whited; and brother in law, Ned Plaster.

Survivors are: His Wife: Patricia “Pat” Lawson Whited Daughter: Terresa Peery of Swords Creek, Virginia Son: Brian K. Sweeney of Swords Creek, Virginia Four Sisters: Caffie West and husband, Jimmie of Bristol, Virginia Judy Plaster of Midland, Virginia Greta Owens and husband, Glen of Honaker, Virginia Special Sister: Susie Flanner and husband, Larry of North Tazewell, Virginia Two Brothers: Doyle Whited and wife, Liz of Shelby, Ohio Larry Whited and wife, Linda of Swords Creek, Virginia Special Brother of the Heart: Jimmy Boyd and wife, Janet of Swords Creek, Virginia Two Sisters in Law: Priscilla Thompson and friend, John Jenkins of Herndon, Virginia Tina Whited of Swords Creek, Virginia Granddaughter: Daisy M. Peery Great Grandson: Lucas Sweeney Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Roland “Toad” Whited will be conducted Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis White officiating.

Members of the UMWA Chaplain Corps will conduct funeral rites. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Scotty Whited, Larry Wayne Whited, Ronnie Whited, Jr., Matthew Whited, Eric Plaster, and Eddie Whited.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Kevin Flanner, Alex Smith, Brian Sims, Keith West, Eugene Whited, and David Whited. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call after 6pm on Monday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
