Ruth Elizabeth Klotz Newman , December 09, 1926 — July 30, 2018

Ruth Elizabeth (Klotz) Newman, 91, of Grantsville, MD, died Monday, July 30, 2018, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville. Born December 9, 1926, in Grantsville, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Sadie (Beitzel) Klotz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald James Newman, February 28, 1992; four brothers, Herman, Howard, Frank and Elwood “Budder” Klotz and one sister, Iva Stanton.

When Don started Newman Funeral Homes, Ruth wanted to work with him in the family business. She took the funeral directors test in 1964, the last year it was offered, which allowed her to make arrangements and conduct funerals. She retired following Don’s illness, in 1991.

Her passion was the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Past Matron of Mountain Chapter #15, Frostburg, most recently serving as Star Point Esther. She enjoyed traveling with the “Star” and making peanut butter crunch candy.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Grantsville, where she served on the church council and was a member of Christ Church Women. Ruth was also a charter member of the Grantsville Firemen’s Auxiliary, member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion Auxiliary and Re Temple, Daughters of the Nile. Surviving is her son, D. Lynn Newman and wife, Carol, Grantsville; three grandsons, Geoffrey Newman, Washington, DC, Aaron Newman and Cameron Newman, both of Baltimore, MD.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Honoring her devotion to the Eastern Star, Mountain Chapter #15, will hold a memorial service, Thursday, August 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by her funeral service in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Edward DeVore officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
