Thelma A Fahringer Schaeffer, November 25, 1928 — January 26, 2019

Thelma A. (Fahringer) Schaeffer, 90, of Highmount died January 26, 2019 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Schaeffer. Prior to his death in 2005, they were married for 58 years.

Born November 25, 1928 in Hellam Township, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Barshinger) Fahringer. Thelma was an Avon representative for over 50 years and received many President’s Club Awards. She was a lifelong active member of Fairmount United Methodist Church where she sang with the church choir.

She was a member of the Christian Women’s Association and worked the polling booth for many years in Hellam Township. Thelma’s love for traveling began on a trip for her 25th wedding anniversary and continued as she traveled extensively around the world. Family was extremely important to Thelma especially her traditional Sunday night get together with her family and extended family.

Anyone who came through her door, she welcomed them and considered them part of her family. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Sharon and her husband, John Klock of York, Judith Tunney of Hellam, and Vickie and her husband, Gregg Everhart of Manchester; her son, Joseph Schaeffer of Thomasville; 7 grandchildren, Angela Shearer and her fiancé, Mick Ebersole, Jason Everhart and his companion, Tammy Whitebread, Eric Kostenbauder and his wife, Sarah, Jennifer Gagne and her husband, Mark, Nicholas Tunney and his wife, Lori, Bradley Klock and his wife, Sally, and Lauren Pratt and her husband, Jamie; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and a brother, Paul Fahringer of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Robert Schaeffer; 6 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairmount United Methodist Church, 5835 Furnace Road, York, PA 17406 with her pastor, the Rev. Eddie Hutcheson, officiating. Burial will be in Highmount Cemetery.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairmount United Methodist Church, 5835 Furnace Road, York, PA 17406 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
