Obituary for William “Bill” Callies William “Bill” C. Callies, 79, of Grand Island, passed away at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Services will be held on Thursday May 3 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Reverend Lisa Ewald will officiate.

A visitation will be held May 2, from 5 pm – 7 pm at All Faiths Funeral Home. Bill was born on April 23, 1938 to Marion and Eveleen (Bloomstrom) Callies in Brainard, MN. The family later moved to Norfolk where Bill graduated from high school.

During his high school career, Bill played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended UNL on a football scholarship. Bill married Karen Brokke on April 29, 1979.

They made their home in Grand Island where Bill became the President of Midwest Insurance selling over the road truck insurance. He also enjoyed being the statistician for KFOR radio for the football games for 13 years. Bill is a former Mason as well as former member of Riverside Country Club.

He enjoyed traveling with Karen and spending time with his family. Together they have visited France several times, Normandy Beach as well as the south beaches, Monument Valley in AZ, and 46 of the 50 states. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen; children, Jeri (Terry) Goodman of Union, Christi Lawver of Grand Island, Meredith (Phillippe) Williams- Papasian of France, Ward (Lisa) Williams of Lincoln, and Carole (Brandon) Williams- Hagen of Arvada, CO; six grandchildren, Alicia Marco, Samuel Williams, Ella Williams, Miah Lawver, Emma Papasian, and Nina Papasian; two great grandchildren; four nephews, Paul, John, Gary, and Mark Bruggeman; sister-in-law, Sarah Brokke; and Frances (Don) Roelle.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Corbi Hongsermeier; parents; sister, Maraleen “Nikki” Bruggeman; brothers-in-law, Merlyn Bruggeman and Lester Brokke; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
