Yvonne Kay Jones September 27, 1951 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Yvonne Kay Jones (nee: Hammond) 67 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at New Life Hospice in Lorain following a lengthly illness. She was born September 27, 1951 in Amherst. Yvonne was a lifetime resident of Amherst and the South Amherst area.
She was a graduate of South Amherst High School with the class of 1970. Yvonne was a health care worker who served people with disabilities at various nursing homes and group homes before retiring in 1994. She attended Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Amherst.
Her hobbies included toll painting, camping, joke telling and shopping. Yvonne was known to be a straight forward person. Yvonne loved to make people smile and had a special touch on everyone she met.
She always told her family that her goal was to make memories. Survivors include her son Haden Wayne Jones of Vermilion; her daughters Marcia Izer (Steven) of Medina, Lizabeth Marshall (Darrell) of Bellevue, and Susan Morgan (Ed) of Vermilion; twenty grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her siblings Jack Hammond (Joyce) of Avon; Joshua Hammond of Amherst her nephew whom she considered a brother; sisters Betty Criswell (Luther) of Monticello, Kentucky, Connie Flint of Amherst and Sharlene Wharton (Guy) of Elyria; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-one years Lewis Haden Jones on August 26, 2008; her granddaughter Emily Sue Morgan; and her parents Herman and Letha Hammond (nee: Barley).
On behalf of Yvonne, the family would like to thank the staff at the Elmcroft, the officces of Dr. Fawzy and Dr. Sidloski for the care she received over the years. Friends may call Tuesday, January 29, 2019, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. , Amherst.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Farrell Keith, pastor of Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
