Obituary for Amos Compton Amos Compton of Abingdon, VA was called home to our Lord while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the age of 81. Amos was born on March 7, 1937 in Prater, VA to the late Corbett and Effie Owens Compton of Prater, VA. He worked most of his life in the coal industry at Island Creek Coal Company (Consol) District 28; Local #1509.

He was known for having an incredible work ethic and always strived to protect and provide for his family. Amos lived most of his life in the Richlands area. To all that knew him, he was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather.

He will forever be a missing piece to complete our family! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clinard Compton; sister, Jeanette McMahon; and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Compton. He is survived by: His loving Wife, Shirley Ann Boyd Compton.

They were married on October 10, 1959; and they shared 59 wonderful years full of love, laughter and a lifetime of cherished memories. Together they had three children: Two Daughters: Vickie Ann Hayes and husband, Rick of Bluefield, WV Rhonda Renee Walls and husband, Scott of Vinton, VA Son, Lionel Keith Compton of Lebanon, VA Grandchildren: Jessica, Amber, Christopher, Ricky, Breanna, Hope, Logan, Dylan, Eden and Greta Great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren: Alden, Hailey, Skylar, Wyatt, Chloe and soon to be baby Carter. Three Sisters: Flornia Owens of Prater, VA Merlene McCoy of Defiance, OH Geneva Hill of Lebanon, VA A host of loving family and friends also survive.

Graveside services for Amos Compton will be conducted on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, VA with Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. Entombment will follow.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
