Obituary of Arthur Gill Arthur W. Gill, age 94, of Corning, NY passed away from this world to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. He was born July 29, 1924 in Corning, NY to Arthur A. and Mary Anna (Aker) Gill. On September 5, 1953, he married Marion J. Palyun.

They were inseparable and recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. Marion predeceased Art on October 10, 2018. Art left school early to serve in the Army during World War II.

Upon returning home from war, he helped run the family business, Gill’s Dairy, eventually becoming Owner and Operator of the business for many years. Later, he worked for Meadow Brook Dairy, retiring from there. After retirement, Art drove dump trucks for Rhinehart Sand & Gravel.

He enjoyed hunting, competition pistol shooting and playing cards. Dogs were also special to Art, and he had many canine companions over the years. Art loved to keep busy and was always helping anyone who needed assistance.

He was a kind and giving soul. Art is survived by loving daughters: Colleen (Randy) Mattison, Cindy (Todd Kratzer) Krebs and Mary (Lewis) Gill-Scott, all of Corning, and daughter-in-law, Linda Parker of Campbell. He is also survived by grandchildren: Arthur A. (Laurai) Gill, Sarah Gill, Sadie (Bill) Murphy, Lorraine Hayes, Justin Mattison, Corey Mattison, Michael (Kate) Krebs, Jordan Scott, Aidan Scott, Crystal Parker, James Parker and Amanda Parker; eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Marion, Art was predeceased by his son, Arthur W. Gill, Jr., son-in-law, Paul (Skip) Krebs and siblings: Thomas, Mary Ann, Helen, Gretchen, Rita, Anna, Gertrude, Loyola and Patricia. Art’s family would like to thank the nurses and the entire staff at Elcor Nursing Facility for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to him during his stay. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 27 from 11 – 1 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY, followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
