Beulah Ann Vandyke, age 76 of Contrary passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 after an extended illness. Beulah was born in Buchanan County on June 18, 1942 and was the daughter of the late George W. and Pearl Keen Horn. Beulah was a loving wife, mother and “Nan”.

Beulah “Nan” would tell everyone that the greatest compliment she ever received was from her grandchildren Alex and Samantha when they told her “Nan you are the best toy we have ever had”. She loved to sit on her porch with a good book and a cup of coffee. She enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking for her family, and working crossword puzzles.

Beulah was very knowledgeable and, in many areas, and her family will greatly miss her love, support and guidance. In addition to her parents George and Pearl Horn she was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Vandyke Billiter; five brothers, Clyde, Andy, Ed, Leonard, and Charles Horn; sisters, Ruth Messer and Bea Horn. Those who survive to carry on her spirit are her: Loving husband of 61 years, Jimmy Vandyke Daughter, Patsy Mitchell and fiancé Eddie Hurd of Contrary, VA Son, Alan Vandyke and wife, Melinda of Contrary, VA Grandson, Alex Vandyke and wife, Sara of Salem, VA Granddaughter, Samantha Edmonds and husband, Jared of Johnson City, TN Sister, Betty Horne and husband, Jim of Wytheville, VA Son-in-laws, Michael Billiter and Randy Mitchell Very special thanks Joy Vandyke for her friendship and assistance to Beulah and her family in their time of need and to Dr. Kabaria for all of his compassion and care and to the nursing and medical staff at Clinch Valley Medical Center, who went above and beyond the call of duty.

A private family ceremony was held on January 27th at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home and a graveside service was held conducted on Monday, January 28th at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
