Christopher Allen “Smoke” Steuerwald, 53, of Clay City, Indiana passed away at his home on Saturday, October 6, 2018, the result of an earlier accident. Chris was born in Brazil, IN on March 19, 1965 to Fred Steuerwald and Janice Wilkes Steuerwald. He was a graduate of Clay City High School, class of 1983.

Chris liked Harley Davidson motorcycles, muscle cars and Jeeps and enjoyed working on them. He was currently working on converting a two-wheel drive pickup to a four-wheel drive. Chris was a history buff, especially World War II.

He was an animal lover and cherished his pets, Rastus and Schep. Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Freida Steuerwald; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Dorothy Wilkes; cousins, Richard Duling and James Joe Wilkes; an aunt, Anita Collenbaugh; and an uncle, Robert Duling. Chris is survived by his parents; a daughter, Krysten McDaniel and husband, Josh; a brother, Timothy Steuerwald and wife, Susan; a niece, Jayci Steuerwald; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted on 10:00 AM Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street, Clay City with Pastors Dave Smith and Robert Harting officiating. Burial will follow in Sink Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in the funeral home.
