Donald Owen “Donnie” Crowe, age 67, Avilton MD, died suddenly on Sunday, April 22, 2018 with his loving wife Rita by his side. Born August 30, 1950, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Ellis and Nora (McKenzie) Crowe. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Ellis Jr. “Sonny” Crowe.

His sister by choice, Barbara Lee Hammonds, Clearville PA, died on April 19. He leaves behind his anguished wife, Rita (Hummel) Crowe; his beloved daughter, Dana Lynn Wentlejewski and husband, Joe, Arnold, MD. He was PopPop to his beautiful granddaughters, Alana Ogilvie and Drew Wentlejewski.

He is also survived by his closest brother, Nevin Crowe, Avilton; his two special nephews, Jeff Jenkins, Frostburg and Tim Jenkins, Hagerstown, MD; two sisters, Edna Mae McKenzie, Grantsville and Juanita Stoyka, Ohio; and a brother, Kevin Crowe, Charles Town, WV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and Crowe cousins. He has two remaining aunts, Emma Mae Walker, local and Betty Garlitz, Ohio; and two uncles, Glenn and Ronald Crowe, Ohio. Among his closest friends and chosen family were Paula and Terence Casey, Bowie, MD; and Judy and Gib Devey, Fredericksburg VA.

Extra special friends who remain behind are Sid and Billy Turner, Ray Miller and Bill Hemmis, local; Andy Day and Gil Day, Dry Run, PA; Randy Steck, Annapolis, MD; and Mike Vocke, Dry Run, PA. Don retired as a Regional Manager for FPIS, Inc. of Ocoee, FL in 2012, and had worked in management roles throughout the country for SCS, Inc. Don served as Santa Claus with Rita as his Elfie throughout the community. He has been an avid hunter since his childhood and loved to hunt and be in the woods, where he died.

He delighted in meeting people and having fun with his friends, of which there are many. Don hosted many family reunions and gatherings at Crowes Rest, where he was always the life of the party. He traveled extensively with Rita to places near and far, from Africa to Alaska and Hawaii, and last year to Iceland.

At his request, his body has been cremated. A celebration of his splendid life is planned for a later date. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, is in charge of cremation arrangements.
