Obituary for Dorothy “Dottie” Ryan Dorothy E. “Dottie” Ryan, a longtime resident of Beacon, entered into rest on May 20, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 82 years old. Dottie was born in Swissvale, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1935 the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen Baacke Bialko.

In 1958 she married Henry “Hank” Ryan. Mr. Ryan predeceased Dottie in 1992. Dottie received a Nursing Diploma from Vassar Hospital and was a registered nurse who worked for many years at Highland Hospital and later St. Francis Hospital in Beacon.

She also worked for Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Supple in Beacon and the Eden Park Nursing Home and Trenel Nursing Home. Dottie was a loving grandmother who was adored by all her grandchildren. She loved watching football and listening to Andrea Bocelli.

She was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church. She was a member of the Women’s Club at St. John’s and chaired the Christmas Fair for many years. She also helped start the hot lunch program at St. John’s school.

Dottie is survived by her children, Katherine B. Ryan, Liz King and her husband, Chris, Larry Ryan and his wife, Kathleen, Jodi Ryan and Debbie LaPiana and her husband, Nick; her grandchildren, Ryan Sullivan, Nora Engelhard, Lauren Heeter, Janice Aungst, Kaitlin King, Maggie Dollard, Colleen Mayrand, Tim Ryan, Michaela Ryan, Giuseppe LaPiana, Carolina LaPiana, Domenica Swanton and Nick LaPiana; her great grandchildren, Jake Haley, Riley and Brandon Smith, Orlando Pacheco, Cadence and Gauge Heeter and Benjamin LaPiana; her sister, Beatrice “Jo” Bialko; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Dottie was predeceased by her sisters, Ellen D’Amato, Jesse Selkow and Sarah Fredericks. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon. Burial will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Hospice of Hudson Valley for the care and compassion given to Dottie.
