James L. “Jim” Copeland, 71, formerly of Allegheny Township, passed away after a short hard battle with liver cancer on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Family Hospice at Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh. Born January 2, 1947 in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Willavene (Artman) Copeland-Blair. Jim was raised by his mother and step-father, Donald Blair and grew up on the Blair Brothers Farm in Allegheny Township.

He was a 1964 graduate of Kiski Area High School. Jim… Read More » proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and continued his service with the Army Reserves for 13 years achieving the rank of First Sergeant. He was a factory worker for PPG Industries, Springdale for 37 years, retiring in 2006.

He was a 5 time past President of the Local Steelworkers Union 112G. After his retirement, he drove for the Moore Bus Company in the Kiski Area School District for several years. Jim loved being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and ” the morning social” with his buddies, especially with his BFF, Tim Dumet.

He was also a Sasquatch (Big Foot) enthusiast. Everyone that knew him liked him! He was a soft spoken, fun loving, generous man and one of his favorite lines was, “Spare no Expense!

” He will be greatly missed and forever loved by us all. Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Valerie L. (Panza) Copeland; son, James R, (fiancé Jinger Wilkins) Copeland; step-daughter, Kristin M. Mizgorski; grandchildren, Cameron S. and Carlie N. Copeland; brother, John H. (Carol) Copeland; first wife, Rene’ (Rupert) Copeland; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave.
