Obituary of James Schmalenberger James A Schmalenberger, 83, formerly of Long Island, NY, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City. Born on October 24, 1934 in Bellmore, NY, he was the son of the late Peter and Sarah Boyce Schmalenberger. Following graduation from high school Mr. Schmalenberger worked in construction, becoming a kitchen and bath designer retiring from Long Island Stove Company.

James and his wife were avid R. V. campers and both were Past Presidents of the Holiday Rambler Camping Club on Long Island. Probably their most memorable trip was a 3 month long trip to Alaska. He and his wife fell in love with the eastern shore of Delmarva following a camping trip to the Assateague National Seashore camping area near Ocean City, MD.

James is survived by his camping buddy and wife of 63 years, Trudy Schmalenberger; one daughter, Cheryl Ruppel and her husband Kenneth of Bay Shore, NY; three sons, Joseph Schmalenberger and his wife Patricia of Bay Shore, NY, Jimmy Schmalenberger and his wife Catherine of East Islip, NY, and Keith Schmalenberger and his wife Katie of Bay Shore, NY; one brother, Peter Schmalenberger of Bellmore, NY, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held on, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in St. Charles/ Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
