Life Story for Jim Russell Calhoun City—James Robert “Jim” Russell, 74, passed away peacefully at home in Bentley surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Born February 1, 1944 in Bentley, he was the son of the late Jessie Ross Russell and the late Beulah Mae Russell. Jim attended Derma High School before its closing, and then went on to graduate from Vardaman High School in 1962.

He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Bentley Baptist Church. He spent most of his life farming, although he spent a few years in Detroit and Chicago. He quickly realized those cities were not for him.

He returned to Bentley and raised his three children. He instilled in them the importance of hard work. He would spend the winters Trapping, and using the money to get started on summer farming.

They will always remember him saying “when you buy something you want, you sacrifice something you need”. He was the backbone of the family, and held everybody together and made them what they are today. He was a big man with a big heart, and he leaves behind a lifetime of memories that his family will cherish forever.

Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Russell family. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at 4:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
