Obituary of Joe Zarasua Joe Zarasua, 88, of Bay City, passed through Heaven’s gates on the evening of Monday, March 12, 2018. Joe was born on June 1, 1929 in Paulding, Ohio, the sixth of fourteen children to the late Justo and Neives (Palomino) Zarazua, who were immigrants from Mexico in 1920. The family settled in Quanicassee.

In 1949, Joe served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When his call to duty was over, he moved to Detroit and worked at Great Lakes Steel for a few years, prior to moving to Bay City where he lived out his life and retired from General Motors in 1992. Those who knew Joe will always remember his unwavering love for the Detroit Tigers.

He was well known for his meticulous yard and enjoyed frequenting the casinos. As the family entertainer, in his younger years, Joe enjoyed playing the guitar and was a classic car enthusiast. Joe’s immediate family tree, who he loved dearly, consists of his four children, Debra (Dan) Witucki, Dennis Zarasua, David (Mary) Zarasua, and the late Deonna.

Joe is also survived by his three grandchildren, Melisa (Rick) Garcia, Greg (Kayla) Garcia, Amanda Witucki, and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Barnes, along with his loving companion and best friend, Dolores Zarasua and her family. He is also survived by his siblings, Consuelo Carmona, Brigida (Fred) Reyez, Alejandra (Vincente) Zamora, Sylvino (Audrey) Zarasua, Venancia (Emilio) Gomez, Joseph (Janet) Zarazua; sister-in-law, Gloria Zarasua, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his daughter, Joe was welcomed home to heaven by his siblings, Chon (Mary), Anselmo (Lila), Simon, Issac Zarazua, Victoria Garcia Rocha, Rafaela (Trinidad) Cirilio, Nieves (Mingo) Lopez, Marcella (Julio) Medina; grandson, Brady Witucki, and brother-in-law, Jesse Carmona.

Joe’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 10:00 AM until Joe’s 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd. , Hampton Twp. Fr.

Jose Maria Cabrera will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.
