Obituary of David Edward Call David Edward Call, 72, of Bay City, our brave, loving, and loyal husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at home, with his family by his side. David was born on April 29, 1946 in Saginaw to the late Harold and Lorraine (Lovay) Call. David was raised and went to school in Saginaw and graduated from Arthur Hill Tech in 1965, where he was the high school football hero and homecoming king, otherwise known as “King Call”.
After high school, David enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a proud military veteran who served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1970 after obtaining the rank of Buck Sergeant. Soon after the Air Force, David was employed by General Motors.
He had a distinguished career at GM where he worked as a machine repairman. While there were many great accomplishments and achievements at GM, it was early on in his career that he had one of his greatest achievements when one day a co-worker talked him into going on a blind date with his co-worker’s daughter. After an exciting ride in a Camaro and a romantic trip through a McDonald’s drive thru, on September 16, 1972, he married the woman who stole his heart, Judi Liss.
They would have celebrated 46 years of marriage this September. After retirement, David became a camping enthusiast and enjoyed the good life including mowing the lawn (otherwise known as rural landscaping). He was an avid fan of TV crime dramas and always enjoyed a good Hallmark Christmas Movie.
David also had a big generous heart ready to help anyone whenever he could. He loved his grandchildren and family get-togethers. He would even endure board games and others as a sacrifice of love for his family.
He is survived by his wife Judi Call; his daughters, Carrie Lightstein (JR) and Mindy Fox (Ed); his son, Mike Call (Megan); grandchildren, Justin, Jayden and Michaela Call; Nate, Jeb, Zach and Trinity Lightstein; Skylar Fox; sisters Tina Hart, Jackie Hayes, Janice Fleet, Mary Greenleaf (Garie), Rose Brennan (Ken). David is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Jim Liss and Joe Liss (Mary); his sisters-in-law, Joanne Schallier (Chuck), Reggie Call, and Denise Liss, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Call; his in-laws, Jim and Jean Liss, his brothers-in-law, Jeff Liss, Chuck Hayes, Ray Amyotte, and Joe Fleet and sisters-in-law, Barb Liss and Janet Amyotte.
David was a faithful husband, loving father and provider. He was a generous man with a servant’s heart, always making people laugh even at his own expense. He made this world a better place while he was here and he will be dearly missed.
David’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 3:00 PM until David’s 7:00 PM Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd. , Hampton Twp. Burial will be held privately in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
