Obituary of Phyllis Ann Mohr Phyllis Ann Diedrich Mohr was born February 8, 1931 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Herbert and Doris Diedrich, and passed away March 28, 2018 at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living. She attended Jackson High School in Campbellstown, Ohio, and graduated first in her class in 1949. In 1950 she married Henry Mohr and moved with him to Midland, Michigan – where she resided until 1972, when she moved to Esville.
She was instrumental in the creation and administration of the Kinder-Kare Day Care Centers – while attending Delta College. In 1972, she was one of the first teachers hired at the brand-new Bay-Arenac Skill Center to develop and teach the Child Care class. While teaching, she attended Central Michigan University during nights and summers to obtain her B.A. and Vocational Teaching Certificate.
In 1989, Phyllis took the job of creating the Infant/Toddler Child Care Center for the Bay-Arenac Community High School, and was the Director until her retirement from the Bay-Arenac Intermediate School System three years later. She then was an after-school caregiver for her grandson, Alexander, and an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church until 2001 when she moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. While in Tennessee, she made many new friends, attended Christ Lutheran Church, and thoroughly enjoyed the mountain vistas and the cultural events the area had to offer.
Phyllis moved back to the Bay City area in 2013 and resumed her membership with Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Jim) Schaub; sons, Timothy Mohr and Jeffrey (Kimberly) Mohr; grandchildren, Alexander (Michaela) Schaub, Aaron (Brianna) Mohr, Hayley (Aaron Watts) Mohr, Jereme (Lindsay) Mohr, Michael (Jennifer) Mohr, Casey Mohr, and two great-granddaughters, Roxalee Mohr and Evelyn Mohr. She is also survived by her sister, Sara (Bruce) Baker, and her brother-in-law, Bob Arnold.
She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Arnold. The family would like to thank the Sheffield Bay Assisted Living staff for the care and compassion they have shown to Phyllis and her family during the past two and a half years. Phyllis’ family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 11:30 AM until the time of her 1:00 PM Memorial Ceremony at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1705 Nebobish Ave.
, Esville. A Life Celebration Reception & Tribute Cocktail Hour will immediately follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s, 955 N. Pine Rd. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
