Surrounded by family on the bright sunny afternoon of April 24, 2018, Claude Lamph passed after a short illness. Born in American Fork on April 10, 1947 to Lois Hunting and Luris (Lou) Lamph. Raised on the Hunting Family homestead, he enjoyed living and working on the farm with multiple generations of a tight-knit family.
He was an Eagle Scout who graduated from American Fork High School in 1965. Claude worked for the Utah State Corrections Department Prison Infirmary while attending BYU University for his Registered Nursing Degree, then Weber State University for his Bachelor’s of Nursing and completing his education at the University of Utah as a Physician Assistant. He retired from Department of Corrections after 20 years of service.
He then worked at Copperton Work Clinic before going to work for Pioneer and Lakeview Hospitals until retiring in August 2014. While working at his mother and step-father’s dry cleaners, he met Christine Mann (Lamph). They married on August 30, 1969 and were married for 24 years before divorcing.
They produced 3 children and 2 grandchildren from this union. TyRee Lamph (son) and granddaughter Dakota Lamph (Robinson), Andrea Lamph (daughter-deceased), Amber Lamph (daughter) and grandson Zakkary Reynolds. Claude built his home on the Hunting Family Homestead next door to his sister, Cassie.
Keeping up the legacy of farming and raising family together. This gave his children and grandchildren the gift of having Cousins, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles as best friends to grow up with. While working at Pioneer Hospital he met his best friend and “wifey”, Jannie Thompson-Lamph.
They married on November 7, 2015. With that union, Claude was blessed to add son (step) Zachary Scott Thompson to his family. Claude loved to spend time with family and took every opportunity to be outdoors.
He loved the San Rafeal Swell because a vacation to him was anywhere he could park the camper and rockhound for gemstones. This was a special love shared with him by his son, TyRee, in which only a few people can understand the joys of licking a rock to find a treasure. He also enjoyed fishing, but never from a boat.
The only time he enjoyed being on the water was during his honeymoon with Jannie where they were able to experience whale watching, moonlight cruise and going to the ocean depths in a submarine. He was an avid hunter of both small and large game. One of his favorite places to hunt was with his sister and her family at their property in Ephraim.
No matter where it was he traveled or who it was with, a magazine, book, or newspaper was sure to be close by as he was an avid reader of everything. Claude was proceeded in death by many whom he loved dearly. Including a few are Claude and Helen Hunting (Grandparents), Boyd Hunting (Great Uncle), Iva Hunting (Great Aunt), Lois Draney (Mother), and Andrea Lamph (Daughter).
He is survived by his wife, Jannie Thompson-Lamph and children TyRee Lamph (Son), Amber Lamph (Daughter) and Zachary Scott Thompson (Step-son). Grandchildren, Zakkary Reynolds, Dakota Lamph Robison. Siblings Cassie (sister) & Neal Allred, James (brother) & Nancy Lamph and Step brothers Jim (Beverly) Draney, Dan (MaryAnn) Draney and Kevin (Sue) Draney.
An open-house, Celebration of Life in honor of Claude Lamph will be held on May 5, 2018 from 1-4 p.m. at the residence of Cassie & Neal Allred, located at 7060 W 7750 N American Fork, UT. This is a casual outside celebration to share stories of Claude’s life from each of you, while listening to some oldies music and enjoying some food. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Nature Conservatory to help preserve the wilderness and wildlife that he loved so much.
A fund in Claude’s name has also been set up through the American Fork City Library for donations in his honor.
