Obituary for Mona Kay Bush After a seven-year battle with Thyroid Cancer, Mona Kay Bush passed on June 27, 2018 at age 79. Born on August 23, 1938 in St. Albans, WV to parents Mildred and Doug White. Mona had one sister, Connie Roy who preceded her in death.
A graduate of Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) and Marshall University, Mona taught Special Education and Elementary Education in Kanawha County for 20 years. She married David Bush on June 25, 1959 (having been proposed to on the second date as she like to say) and they had three children – Marc Alan Bush (deceased), Melissa Leigh (Richard Connell), and Michael David (Sarah) Bush. Seven grandchildren, Devon and Derick Connell of Ellicott City, Maryland; Carly Connell of Morgantown; and Sabrina, Cory, Owen (deceased) and Connor Bush of Hurricane.
As an Air Force wife, she spent the first 10 years of her life traveling in Europe and the mid-east, including one 15-month stay in Pakistan. She loved to travel and explore new places and in particular loved her three years in Italy and her 50th Anniversary trip to Alaska. Mona was a gifted cook who delighted in introducing her children, grandchildren and friends to outstanding cuisine and to ethnic dishes acquired in her many travels.
She introduced new foods to all her family and friends with the phrase “Just try a no-thank you bite. There is no food you won’t like if it is prepared right”. Mona was very active in church work and taught bible classes in her home from time to time.
She was very much involved in biblical research and loved to educate others on her research. She was a member of King’s River Worship Center in St. Albans. Her greatest joy, however, was in family gatherings and it was a tradition to gather the clan at Thanksgiving in the mountains of West Virginia at Alpine Lake Resort where her daughter Melissa and son-in-law Rick reside.
