Centrella “Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother” Mrs. Phyllis M. (Ciriello) Centrella, 94, of Waterbury, entered into the gates of heaven on Saturday January 5, 2019 at Elim Park Home in Cheshire. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick D. Centrella who died November 30, 2007. Phyllis was born in Waterbury on April 21, 1924 daughter of the late Michael and Carmella (Cipriano) Ciriello.
She graduated from Wilby High School. Besides being a proud homemaker having raised her 3 children she worked as a bookkeeper for Grand Union for 17 years until they closed in 1977 and then worked at the Tie Shop men’s clothing store for 13 years until her retirement in 1989. She was a longtime communicant and the first women Usher at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel Church, member and past president of the St. Anne’s Society and a member of the Forever Young Senior Group. She leaves to cherish her memory her 3 children; Frederick D. Centrella Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Prospect, and her twins, Michael Centrella and Thomas McCarthy of Cheshire and Patricia Marino of Waterbury; 4 grandchildren, Michael Catalina, Frederick D. Centrella III, Nathaniel Centrella and his wife Stephanie, and Alethea Murphy and her husband Brian, 8 great grandchildren, Brian Murphy, Sierra Centrella, Kiley Murphy, Frederick D. Centrella IV, Donavan Murphy, James Centrella, Xavier Centrella and Sean Talarino, and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of seven children.
Arrangements: Funeral will be held Wednesday January 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
