Mr. William Sydney “Bill” Beam, age 83, of Blairs, Va. , died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Chatham Health & Rehab, Chatham, Va. He was born January 22, 1935, in Charlotte, N.C., son of W. Loy Beam and Brenda Dellinger Beam.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Jefferson Beam of the home, three daughters, Linda B. Abernathy and husband, Paul of Stanley, N.C., Teresa B. Winslow and husband, Claren of Caldwell, Idaho, and Janet B. Mullis and husband, Don of Alexis, N.C.;… Read More » two stepsons, Kenneth D. Fitzgerald and wife, Deborah of Blairs, Va. and Glenn Scott Fitzgerald and wife, Pilar of Reno, Nevada. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Beam was predeceased by his sisters, Evangeline Berryhill of Garner, N.C. and Frances Hinson of Lincolnton, N.C. Bill was educated in schools in Charlotte, N.C. and employed as a textile engineer at International Dyeing Equipment and Gaston County Equipment in Mt. Holly N.C., designing equipment and machinery for production of textiles. He loved woodworking and could make most anything for his family including doll cradles, toy boxes and desks for his grandchildren, as well as porches, stairs or the addition of a room or bath for his wife.

He always had a to do list and did a beautiful job of anything he attempted until his health started to slow him down. Bill was a member of Stanley Methodist Church in Stanley, N.C., but after retiring and moving to Blairs, Va. , he attended Chestnut Level Baptist in Blairs as long as his health permitted.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Chestnut Level Baptist Church, on Spring Garden Road, Blairs, Va. , with Pastor David Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the service, and at other times at the residence.

Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. & Crematory, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke.
