Obituary of Bonnie Hudson Bonnie Jean Hudson, age 81, of Corning, NY passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers, Painted Post, NY. Bonnie was born on June 23, 1936 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Vern and Hattie Mae Hooey. She was a graduate of Northside High School (’54), Cazenovia College (’58) and Elmira College (’60).

She married Jim Hudson on August 13, 1960. She worked as a sales clerk for Catherine Canny between High school and college, as well as a City of Corning Parks and Recreation lifeguard. Upon graduating from Elmira College, she became a Kindergarten teacher for the Corning Painted-Post School District, serving children at Carder, Severn, Erwin Valley Gregg and Winfield schools from 1960-2000.

Bonnie was a member of the Junior Women’s Club and awarded the Outstanding Young Women of America Award. She was a member of the Corning Hospital Auxiliary, Grace United Methodist Church Chancel and Hand Bell Choirs, Supper Club and Women’s Club, an alumni class organizer for Northside High School, and an ESL Teacher – instrumental in providing services for refugee families in the Corning area. In addition, she was President of the PTA, a Girl Scout Leader and a pack leader for Cub Scouts.

She was always generous to various organizations – donating monetarily to those in need. In her free time, Bonnie volunteered for the Benjamin Patterson Inn and worked door-to-door sales for Corelle. She had a love for animals – enjoying her dogs and horses when she was younger – even competing in Equestrian competitions.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and many friends on Waneta Lake. She enjoyed water skiing, jet skiing and entertaining those around her. She will be remembered for always taking care of others, including her daughter Lis and granddaughter, Marisa over the years.

She is survived by: husband, James Hudson, son, Michael Hudson, brother, Curtis (Rosemary) Hooey, son-in-law, Andrew Heininger, and granddaughter, Marisa Heininger. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was predeceased by daughter, Elisabeth Heininger (Hudson), and brother, Robert (Ruth Ann) Hooey. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 11:00 am the Grace United Methodist Church, 191 Bridge St., Corning, NY, Pastor Gil Mitchell officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Chapel Knoll Cemetery, Painted Post, NY. The family will provide flowers, and asks that funds be directed in Bonnie’s honor to a scholarship fund which is set up for her granddaughter, Marisa Heininger.
