Edwar Anthon D Rosa , March 17, 1967 — March 11, 2018

Obituary of Edward DeRosa Edward Anthony DeRosa, age 74, of Painted Post, formerly of Stamford and Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Eduardo Goncalves and Clarinda (Souza) DeRosa. He married Joyce Selman on March 17, 1967 in Boston, MA.

She predeceased him on October 24, 2009. Edward received a Masters degree in Economics from Northeastern University. After graduate school he worked in the computer science field and helped develop some of the first early logistical software programs.

By the end of his career he reached the level of Director of Information Technology after working for organizations such as the New York City Transit Authority, Hertz Corp. , Caldor Inc., Zotos International Inc., Sketchley Services Inc., and Davidoff. Ed was a skilled builder and could fix just about anything.

In the early part of his retirement he put his do-it-yourself skills to work by spending several years as a self-employed general contractor. He loved to learn and spent his spare time furthering his knowledge in physics, mathematics, astronomy, politics, and economics. On the lighter side he loved to tell long stories, to watch shows about extraterrestrial aliens, and he spent many hours listening to major league baseball games on the radio.

When he needed to get away from it all he and his wife Joyce enjoyed many summer visits together to Cape Cod. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Rebecca DeRosa of Painted Post and David and Jennifer DeRosa of Sherman, Connecticut, sisters, Clarinda of Boston, Massachusetts and Elzira of Florida, grandchildren, Jacob, Elyssa, Lauren, Alexa (Charles) Conway, Nicholas, Jonathan, and Sofia, great granddaughter, Violet, and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, Edward was predeceased by his siblings, Marian, Anthony, and Joseph.

A celebration of life service will take place at a later time. Arrangements by Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
