Obituary of Sheila Mahady Sheila J. Mahady, age 77, formerly of Painted Post, NY passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Blue Bell Place, Blue Bell, PA with her family by her side. Sheila was born on November 9, 1940 in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Michael P. and the late Anna (Devaney) Murray. She married Daniel Bryan Mahady on August 31, 1963 in Utica, NY.

He preceded her in death on April 29, 2017. Sheila received her undergraduate degree from Ladycliff College before earning her Master’s Degree from Elmira College. She was also a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at the Mathematics Institute, Princeton University.

Sheila was passionate about excellence in education and spent her career teaching at various schools including the Boces Teen Parent Program, Troupsburg Central School and later joined the Corning-Painted Post School District from which she retired in 1995 where she was an ispiration to so many of her students. While with Corning-Painted Post, she was President of the Corning Teachers Association, NYSUT. She was also very active in Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational society where she inspired numerous other educators and served as the President of the Beta Chi Chapter.

Sheila was also a founding member and very active in the Fund for Women. She and her husband, Bryan loved the Southern Tier and the Corning Community and gave back through various community activities. She was an active member serving on the boards of the Elmira Corning Community Foundation, Southern Tier Women’s Center, and the Corning Hospital Auxiliary.

She was also an active member of the Corning Catholic Community, serving as parish counsel president at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She is survived children: Bryan (Eileen) Mahady of Blue Bell, PA, Diane (Djordje) Mahady-Stefanovic of New York, NY; grandchildren: Jack, Stephen, Erin and Kevin Mahady and Alexander and Natalia Stefanovic. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 115 E. High St., Painted Post, NY.

A luncheon will immediately follow the Mass at Pierri’s Central Restaurant, 104 Village Square, Painted Post. Burial will take place in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Carpenter’s Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
