Obituary of Gerald Carrier Gerald Burton Carrier, Jr., age 91, of Campbell, NY, died Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post, NY. Jerry was born on August 24, 1927 in Punxsutawney, PA to Gerald and Mabel (Lines) Carrier. He married Patricia Valentine on September 11, 1949 in Bowling Green, OH.

They met at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Bowling Green. Jerry graduated from Punxsutawney High School and then served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He attended Bowling Green State University, where he received degrees in Math and Physics.

He earned his Master’s Degree at Ohio State University. When in college, he spent summers working in Yosemite National Park, hitchhiking to California and back from Bowling Green. It was a job that he really loved.

Jerry joined Corning Glass Works in 1952 where for 25 years he ran the electron microscope. He then went into product development. He loved doing research and remained in the lab until his retirement in 1996.

For thirteen years, Jerry taught calculus at Elmira College in the evenings. Jerry was a member and active in the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church as a Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, led youth activities, and served on many committees. He was on the Youth for Christ (now Family Life Network) Board of Directors for many years.

In 1971 he and his wife opened Ontario Carpet Center. They operated it for 21 years and had many wonderful customers. He is survived by his wife Patricia; two daughters, Sally Gall of Hunlock Creek, PA and Kathryn Carrier of Indianapolis, IN; son, Thomas Carrier of Campbell; grandchildren, Christopher, Callista, Marcus, Kaitlyn; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry is predeceased by his sisters, Esther Jane Carrier and Ann Fehl; brother-in-law, Robert Fehl. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 17 from 1-3PM at Beartown Road Alliance Church, 21 Beartown Road, Painted Post, NY where funeral services will follow at 3:00PM, with Pastor Vaughn VanSkiver officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Corning.
