HOWARD L. “PETE” McCREARY, 94, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday evening, June 3, 2018. He was born in Byesville, Ohio on December 16, 1923, the son of the late Edward and Mae (Robertson) McCreary. Pete proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and received numerous medals for his service.

He spent many years as a manager for A & P Grocery Stores, as well as working for Fisher Distributing, Allied Wine Distributing, and Fulmer Supermarkets. An active Mason,… Read More » Pete was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Antioch Shrine. He was also very active in the Springfield Shrine Club and they named their pond “Pete’s Pond” in his honor and he worked tirelessly raising money for the Shriner’s Hospitals.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bonnie Joanne (Heskett) McCreary; children, Joan (Kenneth) Bushey of Springfield, Melissa (Stephen) Hathaway of Port Clinton, Ohio and David McCreary of Springfield; two grandchildren, Angela (Martin) Richardson of Guyton, Georgia and Matthew (Natalie) Bushey of Springfield; and two great grandchildren, Lilly and Cooper Bushey. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard McCreary. A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
